Abstract

Universities, immersed in an environment of permanent social, business, educational, cultural and economic change, need to strengthen libraries so that they support their basic functions of teaching and research and provide information for action. This work aims to determine the behavior of information technologies in the university libraries of the Maracaibo Municipality, as effective means in the generation of distinctive skills and the formation of competitive advantages. The descriptive, field study is based on the information provided through a questionnaire by the directors of the selected libraries. The results show that despite having made efforts to provide modern technologies to university libraries, their application does not reflect the development of strengths in terms of quality, innovation and response capacity. In conclusion, the applied technologies are disconnected from their potential for the formation of competitive advantages.
