Reconstruction of the social fabric as a consequence of the armed conflict. A study under a gender approach

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to reflect on the participation of women in the reconstruction of the social fabric of a country victim of the scourge of armed conflict such as Colombia, where at least 22 wars have been fought during the last century, linked to power disputes between the State, big businessmen and the church. They were also marked by the territorial and state struggle between traditional political parties and illegal groups. Women have played an important role, because they have been heads of households, victims of violence and abandonment of their lands (displacement), and have had to face adverse family situations due to violations of their rights, and have come out successful to begin to rebuild the welfare of their families, in an admirable way, contributing to the recovery of the social fabric. The methodology employed was documentary, using a search strategy in databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, following the guidelines of Booth, Sutton, and Papaioannou (2016). Keywords included: “armed conflict in Colombia”, “peace agreement”, “forced displacement”, “social fabric”, and “women and conflict”. Concluding on the important role of women in the reconstruction of the social fabric within the territories, because, being the focus of violence, living this scourge in their own flesh, they can resiliently overcome and collaborate with the community generating the necessary strategies that contribute to this purpose.
